Along the way, your expert guide will show you to works by Van Gogh and Monet, introduce you to some fairly quiet Egyptian mummies, a few stoic statues who traveled from Greece and Rome, and pause at the Bisj Poles... You'll even wander straight into an Egyptian temple. The Temple of Dendur (a highlight for all!) was brought from Egypt and re-erected in its entirety right here in The Met. No matter your background or age, this ancient structure is jaw-dropping.

Where is the meeting point for this NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art tour?

The tour meets in the main lobby of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Metropolitan Museum of Art's address is at 1000 5th Ave., to the right of the information desk in front of the large seated Pharaoh, or as confirmed in your confirmation email. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour's start time. The tour guides will hold a sign with the Walks logo and the words “MEET HERE” on it.

How long is the tour inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art?

Entire MET Express tour is approximately 2 hours.

What if I'm late for the MET tour?

If you are running late, it's best to contact the tour operator at the phone number on your e-ticket so they can reach out to your guide. This is not always possible for all tours - their guides are with other clients and already into the tour (they ask them not to use their phones during their tour). But in some cases, a few-minute delay can be remedied. Most times, guides leave the meeting point within 5 minutes of the tour start time.

What is included in the tour?

The tour includes a pre-arranged skip-the-line ticket to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, hours looking at the MET collections and exhibits, a local English-speaking guide, and an expertly guided walking tour. Tours are all given in English. Multi-language tours are not offered.

What exhibits in the Metropolitan Museum of Art will we be visiting?

You will see the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), the Ancient Egyptian Galleries, the Temple of Dendur, the Tomb of Perneb, the Greek and Roman Galleries, the Auguste Rodin (Sculptures), Vincent van Gogh (Paintings), Picasso and, Degas (Paintings), Claude Monet (Water Lilies), and John Singer Sargent (Madame X). The pieces listed in the tour description are viewable most of the time. However, like nearly all great museums, the Met occasionally allows certain works to travel in temporary exhibitions or be lent to other institutions. The Met also allows private parties to book out certain rooms for events (most commonly the Temple of Dendur), rendering them inaccessible for the duration of the event. If one of the listed pieces cannot be viewed, the guide, at their discretion, will substitute another piece of important value. The rooftop garden is only open from May through October, weather permitting. On other months your Met tour will include extra artworks instead, spending more time inside the Museum.

Are there any age/physical/health/etc. restrictions for this Metropolitan Museum of Art tour?

There aren't any age restrictions for this tour. True to their name, most Walks' tours involve walking for at least half, if not most of the time. Except for a few of their day trips, driving tours, or boat excursions, you can expect to walk a fair amount. Guests should be able to walk at a moderate pace without difficulty.

Is this tour wheelchair accessible?

The Met is fully wheelchair accessible. However, if you cannot climb the stairs of the central entrance to reach the meeting point, there is a ground level entrance one block south, near the intersection of 81st street and 5th avenue. Tell the desk you need to use the elevator to meet a group in the main lobby (at pharaoh statue), which will then secure your entrance ticket. They will provide you with a temporary pass and help direct you upstairs.
