The tour meets in the main lobby of The Metropolitan Museum of Art at 1000 5th Ave., to the right of the information desk in front of the large seated Pharaoh, or as confirmed in your confirmation email. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour start time. Tour guides will hold a sign with the Walks logo and “MEET HERE” on it.
This tour is approximately 3 hours.
If you are running late, it's best to contact the tour operator via the phone number on your e-ticket or their website so they can reach out to your guide. This is not always possible for all tours - their guides are with other clients and are already into the tour (they ask them not to use their phones during their tour). But in some cases, a few minutes of delays can be remedied. Most times, guides leave the meeting point within 5 minutes of the tour start time.
The tour includes pre-arranged admission to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a local English-speaking art historian guide, and an expertly guided walking tour. The tours are all given in English. They don’t offer multi-language tours.
You will be seeing the Temple of Dendur, 'Washington Crossing the Delaware', 'Madame X', Sculpture Gallery, Ancient Pompeiian Room, Greek and Roman Statuary, and the Met Rooftop (seasonal) overlooking Central Park. All of the pieces listed in the tour description are viewable most of the time. However, like nearly all great museums, the Met occasionally allows certain works to travel in temporary exhibitions or be lent to other institutions. The Met also allows private parties to book out certain rooms for events (most commonly the Temple of Dendur), rendering them inaccessible for the duration of the event. If one of the listed pieces cannot be viewed, the guide, at their discretion, will substitute another piece of important value. The rooftop garden is only open from May through October, weather permitting. On other months your Met tour will include extra artworks instead, spending more time inside the Museum.
Transportation is not included in this tour.
No. However, there is street parking and parking lots nearby for your perusal.
There aren't any age restrictions for this tour. This is a walking tour and you can expect to walk a fair amount. Guests should be able to walk at a moderate pace without difficulty.
Yes. The Met is entirely wheelchair accessible. However, if you cannot climb the stairs of the central entrance to reach the meeting point, there is a ground-level entrance one block south, near the intersection of 81st street and 5th avenue. Tell the desk you need to use the elevator to meet a group in the main lobby (at the Pharaoh statue), which will secure your entrance ticket. They will provide you with a temporary pass and help direct you upstairs.
Yes. Non-flash photography is allowed. However, flash photography and video cameras cannot be used inside the Museum. Selfie sticks are also prohibited.
You may bring your camera and a photo ID.
Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes and attire appropriate for the day’s weather forecast.
A physical or digital copy of this confirmation email is not required to join your tour. Your guide (or tour coordinator) will have your name in their database, so as long as you know the name on the booking, you're set!
